About

The Early Animation Wiki is a collaboration between faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates at the University of Toronto and Animation Resources. A project for gathering and sharing information on the early years of animation, its initial focus is on the United States, but we hope that in time its scope will be international. The wiki offers biographical information on animators, historical data on animation studios, and an extensive bibliography of sources on animation and related topics.

This wiki is incomplete: It needs to be filled out, fixed, and corrected by you. When we began it, our goal was to map out the path of early animators’ careers as they moved from studio to studio, and to build a database of information about individual animators, studios, and cartoons in the early days of American animation. At the same time, we hoped to create an interactive environment that moved beyond the walls of the university. So, this wiki needs your help. It is our attempt to create a site where scholars, collectors, and fans can share our knowledge and passion about animation.

Please feel free to browse the site for information about specific animators, data on studios, or on books, articles, and websites. You will immediately notice gaps big enough to swallow Wile E. Coyote. Please remember that this site is perpetually under development and that we are entering data as fast as we can. We look forward to your feedback. But more than that, we would love for you to become a contributor and help with that work.
