Synopsis
Based on a poem of the same name by Jure Kastelan, Tifusari is a Yugoslav-Croatian animation depicting typhoid sufferers who endlessly wander across a dreadful wasteland of death and despair in hope of a sense of resilience. The short animated film takes the form of woodcuts which feature sharp contrast between shadow and light on both the landscapes and human figures.
According to the original poem, the typhoid sufferers are identified as partisans, members of an anti-facist communist resistance force fighting against the Axis Powers in occupied Yugoslavia during World War II.
