Biography


Following school, freelanced as a cartoonist including regular work for newspaper, The Ottawa Citizen from 1978 to 1984. Moved to Toronto in 1984 to work for Disney Canada Consumer Products, illustrating Disney characters for various merchandise. Relocated to Florida in 1990 to work for Walt Disney World Marketing Art Department, illustrating characters for park merchandise, resorts and advertising paraphernalia.

Moved back to Canada in 1994, settling in Mississauga Ontario, where he still resides, continuing to freelance for Disney and other clients, having illustrated over 50 licensed children’s books and much Disney Store merchandise. Also teaching at Sheridan College in Oakville, as 2nd Year Character Design Instructor in BAA Animation program since 2005.

Family and early life


First generation Canadian born to British parents. Raised in the suburbs of Ottawa across from wide open fields and stream, perfect area for any kid to grow up in.

Personal style


Pete Emslie’s style is a synthesis of his greatest influences: Walt Disney cartoons, Walt Kelly’s “Pogo”, caricaturist Al Hirschfeld, 1960s culture, and his observations from real life. Pete can make any subject look appealing.
