Synopsis
This short film features several sections that introduce Inuit culture, customs, folklores, and craftsmanship. “The Good Day for Hunting” and “Caribou Hunting” discuss the fishing and hunting rituals in Baffin Island. In addition, “the Inuit Christmas Game,” “Magic Man,” and “Juggling” talk about the traditional leisure and mystical activities in the Inuit community. On the other hand, “Bears and the Girl,” “Wolf and Caribou,” and “Attempted Adultery and Rejected Love” display folklore and mythology in the Inuit culture. The animators also include historical and contemporary photos to demonstrate the socio-historical development in Cape Dorset in the twentieth century.
Please note that the word “Eskimo” appearing in the film was officially banned by the Inuit Circumpolar Council in 1980.
