Biography


Amer Shomali is a Palestinian artist interested in multi-media including painting, films, digital media, installations and comics, all of which he applies to address the socio-political landscape of Palestine.

Graduated from Birzeit University, Palestine with a BSc in Architecture and Bournemouth University, United Kingdom, with a Master’s degree in Animation, Shomali teaches at the Faculty of Art, Music, and Design at Birzeit University (Amer Shomali). In 2023, he was appointed General Director of The Palestinian Museum (The Palestinian Museum has a new director-general.).

His artworks are included in collections of multiple museums, including The British Museum, The Arab World Institute, Barjeel Art Foundation, The Samawi collection, The Museum of Manufactured Response to Absence (MoMRtA), Birzeit University Museum, Al-Qattan Foundation; as well as the private collections of Dr. Ramzi Dalloul, Ms. Rana Sadik, Mr. Hashim Shawa, Mr. Rami Nimer, and Mr. George Al Ama (Amer Shomali).

He is most known for co-directing the animated documentary, The Wanted 18, which attended 2014’s Toronto International Film Festival and was awarded the Best Documentary in Abu Dhabi (Sayfo 97).
