Biography


Kemp Powers (1973-present) is an African-American director, screenwriter and playwright working for both animation and theatrical play.
Powers worked as a journalist for 17 years before entering the film industry. He began writing for real-life works such as short film This Day Today in 2012, play One Night in Miami in 2013, and television series Star Trek: Discovery in 2017.
It was not until 2018 when Powers had his directorial debut as co-writer and co-director of Soul (2020), making him the first African-American co-director in Pixar. Later, Powers joined screenwriting for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) and was ready to continue his work in the sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (TBA).
